New timetable starting soon
A new train timetable starting 10 October, will add an extra 285 weekly services to Melbourne’s rail network.
The addition of new services has been made possible by a range of infrastructure improvements including the $92.6 million Laverton Rail Upgrade, as well as having eleven new X’Trapolis trains now operating.

Electric cars have arrived
Victoria’s $5 million electric vehicle trials have moved a step forward with the arrival in Melbourne of 20 fully electric Mitsubishi i-MiEVs.
The world-leading trials will create real conditions by testing how drivers, vehicles, charging infrastructure and the electricity network will interact.

Construction contract awarded for Anglesea Road link
Cut and Fill construction company has been awarded the $71 million contract to build the western extension of the Geelong Ring Road.
The Geelong Ring Road opened last year and works are progressing on a series of links from the road which will improve connections to surrounding suburbs.

SmartBus and DART services to hit the road soon
Thousands of trips will be added across Melbourne's bus network, with the early roll out of SmartBus Route 901 and Doncaster Area Rapid Transit services.
Public transport users are being encouraged to jump on board the new and upgraded bus routes, with two weeks of free travel being offered when the services start.

Maryborough gets its train back
The $50 million project to return passenger rail to the central Victorian town of Maryborough is now complete.
The first passenger train in 15 years arrived at Maryborough Station on Saturday 24 July 2010.

More money for rail maintenance
The Victorian Government has increased investment into rail maintenance by $500 million for a total spend of $1.8 billion over the eight year contract with rail operator Metro.
The Department of Transport and Metro will be working together to deliver $220 million in upgrades and improvements across Victoria’s rail network over the 2010-2011 financial year.

Breakwater Road upgrade begins
Works are now underway on the $63 million Breakwater Road bridge construction and road realignment project.
The Breakwater Road Realignment project, being carried out by McConnell Dowell Construction, aims to reduce the chances of flooding and remove height restrictions on the major road link to Geelong.

V/Line and Metro trains to provide Sunbury rail services
Sunbury residents will be given the choice to catch either V/Line or metropolitan trains, upon the completion of the Sunbury Electrification project.
Works are progressing on the $270 million Sunbury Electrification project, which involves electrifying approximately 15 kilometres of track, from Watergardens Station to Sunbury Station.

Stations designs released for the South Morang Rail Extension
The South Morang Rail Extension Project has reached an important design milestone with the release of concept designs for the project. Released as part of a community engagement program undertaken in August, the architectural concepts illustrate the new upgraded Thomastown and Epping Stations and the new premium station at South Morang.

New local bus routes for Melbourne’s south east
Commuters in Melbourne’s south east are set to benefit from a $2 million boost to bus services, including three new bus routes and improvements to two existing routes.
The new and improved bus routes will offer new access to public transport for the residents of Waterways, Epsom and Dingley, as well as extending bus services to Middle Brighton.
The three new bus routes will operate till 9pm, seven days a week, meaning many residents will have access to Sunday and Public Holiday bus services for the first time.
The improvements come as a result of the Bayside/Kingston and Boroondara/Glen Eira/Stonnington Bus Service Reviews, where more than 200 submissions were made by members of the community.
