Regional Rail Link
Good news for Footscray and Sunshine:
Footscray station will receive a major upgrade and two level crossings in Sunshine will be removed as part of the $4.3 billion Regional Rail Link project.
The decisions come as a result of consultation on the project to identify key issues in the community.
The new Footscray station will be transformed into one of Melbourne’s most modern stations, equipped with escalators, an extended footbridge and upgraded station amenities. View the initial concept designs of the station and a 3D animation.
In the Sunshine area, both public transport and road users will significantly benefit from the removal of the two level crossings on Anderson Road. The project will not only remove delays caused by boom gates but also opens up Sunshine Station precinct for future redevelopment.
Upgrades to the Sunshine Station precinct include a new footbridge and plaza entries at the station, a new platform and improvements to station safety and amenity.
This news comes shortly after the major announcements of a full-depth rail cutting in Section 2 of the project. View the 3D animation through Tarneit or view the announcement of the track alignment through Wyndham Vale.
