Aqua option for WestLink route
The results from community consultation and technical work are in and the preferred route for WestLink is a longer tunnel.
The WestLink project team sought community feedback on three proposed route options, with differing combinations of a road tunnel from the Port of Melbourne and a longer term road connection to the Western Ring Road.
Over 600 people attended the WestLink public displays held last month and over 450 feedback submissions were made on the proposed routes, with overwhelming support for the Aqua option.
The Aqua option and the preferred route is a longer tunnel which will emerge near Paramount Road, beyond the residential area of West Footscray. The next stage of the project will be to connect the tunnel with the Western Ring Road via modified blue option road which avoids a number of properties.
The project team are seeking community feedback on how best to refine the preferred route as they move into the next stage of planning.
Details of the WestLink preferred route will be available to view at the public information displays.
The community is encouraged to provide feedback at these displays or via the Linking Melbourne Authority website by Friday 19 November 2010.
