Regional Rail Link
 Good news for Footscray and Sunshine:
Footscray station will receive a major upgrade and two level crossings in Sunshine will be removed as part of the $4.3 billion Regional Rail Link project.
The decisions come as a result of consultation on the project to identify key issues in the community. | | |

More funding for Truck Action Plan
An extra $21 million in funding has been announced to upgrade Moreland and Whitehall streets as part of the Truck Action Plan project.
The $380 million Truck Action Plan aims to take trucks of residential streets in the west by providing an upgraded route, with better access for freight, from the West Gate Freeway to the Port of Melbourne.

Aqua option for WestLink route
The results from community consultation and technical work are in and the preferred route for WestLink is a longer tunnel.
The WestLink project team sought community feedback on three proposed route options, with differing combinations of a road tunnel from the Port of Melbourne and a longer term road connection to the Western Ring Road.

Works start on three new stations
Works have now started at the new Williams Landing, Lynbrook and Cardinia Road railway stations.
The three stations were identified as locations for the $220 million New Stations in Growth Areas project which aims to serve current and future public transport needs in Melbourne’s growing suburbs.

More premium stations
The new Westall Station is now open as a premium station and the next five stations have been announced for upgrades.
Upgrading stations to premium status involves improvements to customer amenities, walkways, drop off areas, signage, lighting and security facilities. Premium stations are also staffed from first to last train seven days a week.

South Morang Rail Extension
Major work has started ahead of schedule on the rail extension out to South Morang, bringing the project’s completion date forward by nine months.
The South Morang Rail Extension is a $650 million project which includes duplicating five kilometres of single track between Keon Park and Epping, laying three and a half kilometres of new double track to South Morang and building new stations in Thomastown, Epping and South Morang.

More tram services
As of 24 October, public transport users will benefit from 481 new weekly services across Melbourne’s tram network.
The new tram timetable will increase the number of services during peak hours and significantly improve travel on several routes across the Docklands, Coburg, Maribyrnong and Brunswick.

Peninsula Link
Hundreds of construction jobs are on offer as major works start on the Peninsula Link project.
The $759 million Peninsula Link, being delivered by Abigroup, is a 27 kilometre road link between EastLink in Carrum Downs and the Mornington Peninsula Freeway in Mount Martha.

SmartBus and DART
Public transport access has been significantly boosted across Melbourne with the early launch of the extended SmartBus Route 901 and the Doncaster Area Rapid Transport (DART) project which has upgraded four Eastern Freeway bus services to SmartBus standards.

Greater Geelong Bus Improvement Package
Over 1000 new bus services have been added to Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula.
The new bus services come as a result of Stage 2 of the $80 million Greater Geelong Bus Improvement package.
Stage 1 was introduced in September 2009 which added 400 extra weekly services and improved bus connections for people travelling around Leopold, Newcomb, East Geelong, Breakwater Belmont, Grovedale, Waurn Ponds, St Albans and Whittington.
Stage two involved the construction of a new bus interchange on Moorabool Street, the introduction of the new routes 11 and 34 which provide transport to North Shore and Highton North as well as various other network improvements.
Some other improvements made through Stage 2 include more frequent off-peak services to Grovedale and Deakin University, improved services to Lara Station and new morning express services from Torquay, Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads to Geelong.

Public Bike Hire scheme
Helmets are now available to hire or buy for people using Melbourne’s bike share program.
People can purchase a helmet for $5 dollars and choose to keep it or receive $3 cash back if they return it. The helmets are available at 7-Elevens around inner Melbourne or from the helmet vending machines located at Southern Cross and Melbourne University.
